At almost 4,000 metres above sea level stands Ulley, a small village in West Ladakh lies just north of the Indus River. This gorgeous valley is a wildlife lovers delight, being home to a wide variety of Himalayan species, the most famous being the beautiful snow leopard.
Snow Leopards in Ulley
The village and surrounding area of Ulley have fairly recently been developed for snow leopard tracking, but sightings of these majestic creatures cannot be guaranteed, and are likely to only be from a distance.
Himalayan Wildlife in Ulley
Ulley is also home to an array of animals including the Himalayan fox and wolf, Siberian (Asiatic) ibex and Urial (long-legged, small-horned native wild sheep). Birds include Bearded and Himalayan Griffon Vultures Golden eagles, Chukor and Tibetan partridges, Lammergeier, Red-billed Choughs.
