Brunton Boatyard, Cochin, Kerala
Discover the Brunton Boatyard
Located in a former Victorian boatyard in the Fort Kochi district, The Brunton Boatyard Hotel overlooks an expansive waterway. What once stood as the site of a boat manufacturing business belonging to Geo Brunton and Sons, the building has been lovingly restored to provide travellers with a glimpse into 19th Century life in Cochin (Kochi), complete with tall ceilings and traditional low hanging fans. It is little wonder that Salman Rushdie based the first chapters of The Moor’s Last Sigh in this hotel.
After a busy morning spent exploring Cochin’s sights, you may choose to take a dip in Brunton Boatyard’s pool, set in an idyllic garden just a stone’s throw away from the Arabian Sea. Alternatively, you can retreat back to your room; many of the hotels 26 rooms enjoy a sea view with a private patio or balcony. The Ayurvedic Centre offers massages and other therapeutic treatments to weary travellers, while more energetic guests can brush up on their Keralan cooking skills in private lessons with the hotel chef. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, you can enjoy a unique selection of English, Dutch and Portuguese influenced cuisine sitting on the dining terrace overlooking the water.
