- Jaisalmer Fort on Meru Hill was built in 1156 and played host to many battles. The enormous sandstone walls turn gold as the sun sets, hence the nickname of the Golden Fortress
- Discover the Jain heritage of Jaisalmer. Jain culture had a heavy influence on Jaisalmer, especially the seven Jain temples built between the 12th and 15th centuries within Jaisalmer fort. These medieval buildings contain exquisite art and were constructed from yellow sandstone. You’ll also find some of the oldest libraries in India in Jaisalmer, along with a variety of pilgrimage centres
