Kosgoda, Sri Lanka
Discover Kosgoda
The South Western coastal village of Kosgoda is home to the Sea Turtle Conservation Project. Started in 1988, this project monitors and conserves local nesting sites to help protect the sea turtle population. Here, rescued turtle eggs are hatched in a safe environment and hatchlings are released into the sea. It’s a popular place to visit as all five species of turtles that visit Sri Lanka nest in Kosgoda – Green, Olive Ridley, Hawksbill, Loggerhead and Leatherback turtles.
The centre also runs volunteer programs and awareness programs for local and international visitors. It is hands-on and family-friendly and a great place to learn and love nature while also having fun.
